Kenda made a career solving murders with the Colorado Springs Police Department and now shares those stories on the hit Investigation Discovery show Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda. An all new season premieres Tuesday, August 18th at 10/9c.

“Our race is all about highlighting the community aspect of law enforcement. We’re always excited to bring together Fairfax County’s first responders, but we’re thrilled this year to welcome Lt. Joe Kenda to the fold. It’s an honor to have a veteran public safety officer like him see our runners off,” said Fairfax County Crime Solvers Board President Sean Stevens.

This year’s race will again feature a fun-run for kids, a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog, lots of public safety vehicles for the kids to explore, and community activities such as child fingerprinting. Registered runners and bystanders will also watch public safety responders compete against each other in the competitive Public Safety Challenge. This challenge pits Fairfax County’s first responders from the police department, the fire department and the sheriff’s office against each other in a race for bragging rights and the coveted Public Safety Challenge trophy awarded by Lt. Kenda.

Over the past two years the race has raised more than $11,000 for Fairfax County Crime Solvers, and this year the organization is proud to partner with title sponsor Investigation Discovery.

A murder will change the life of a victim, their families, and the convicted killer… but what about the investigator? On Investigation Discovery’s HOMICIDE HUNTER, Lt. Joe Kenda, a veteran of Colorado’s homicide investigation unit with one of the highest case closure rates in the country, reveals chilling memories of cases that still haunt him.

After more than two decades of catching killers with the Colorado Springs Police Department, Lt. Joe Kenda has memories that 13 years of retirement, and even the best therapist in the country, can’t bury. During his tenure, Lt. Kenda and his team solved 387 homicide investigations, resulting in a 92% solve rate. In HOMICIDE HUNTER, Lt. Kenda re-opens his “Murder Books,” folders in which the details of his cases are held, for viewers to revisit each case and understand the crime-solving process.
